Har ki Doon and Kedarkantha Trek Comparison
For trekkers, Uttarakhand state is a treat. There are so many wonderful trekking destinations in the state that draw a lot of trekkers and backpackers every year. Inner peace is provided by flying. It is something everybody wants to discover and appreciate the beauty of nature by taking a walk in a relaxing environment.
Kedarkantha and Har ki Doon are two scenic and classic Uttarakhand treks.
The trek to do in March is a major question and causes uncertainty, as both Har Ki Doon and Kedarkantha are the most scenic treks and offer a wonderful experience. It will be made apparent by a small review of both treks and will help to select one.
1. Altitude and Distance:
Kedarkantha: 12,500ft and 23KM
Har ki Doon: 11,768ft and 47KM
2. Views, Peaks:
Splendid views of Swargarohini, Bandarpooch, and Black Peak are provided by Har ki Doon. Jaundhar Glacier lies 5km north.
Kedarkantha provides spectacular 360-degree views from the top of 13 Himalayan peaks, such as Swargarohini, Black Mountain, Bandarpooch and other powerful peaks.
3. Best time to visit:
In the months of October to February, the best time to visit Kedarkantha. The trek is covered with pristine white snow that is ankle-deep. The snow begins to melt in March and the temperature increases.
Har ki Doon is the perfect place to visit from May to October in the summer months. Nice and calm weather continues. In the winter months, the valley is covered in snow.
Stop monsoon trekking, as trekking on the muddy and slippery trail becomes dangerous.
4. Trek:
Kedarkantha is a trek that is easy to slightly moderate and suitable for beginners. The track is straight up, with a steep climb. Over thick pines, lakes, and lovely campsites, the trek will pass.
While
Har ki Doon trek is a moderate to challenging grade trek. Seasoned trekkers are favoured. You will be brought to green meadows, thick woods, lakes, and tiny villages by the trail.
5. Crowd:
Since Kedarkantha is an early trek, a lot of trekkers and travelers will be spotted.
You will spot less crowds in the winter months or in the monsoon season.
Har ki Dun trek is a seasonal and frustrating trek. The serenity and tranquility that the crowd lacks will leave you awestruck. It is also called the Valley of Gods, which offers a peaceful atmosphere.
6. Village tour:
Both treks start at the village of Sankri, near Dehradun. Just three beautiful and scenic Juda ka Talab, Kedarkantha basecamp, and Hargaon campsites pass through the Kedarkantha trek.
Har ki Doon passes through small hamlets and towns such as Osla, Taluka, Seema, etc. All these villages are untouched by civilization and each place is synonymous with great ancient tales. As the mythological facts suggest, this route (Har ki Doon) was taken by Pandavas to reach Swargrohini Peak and go to heaven. Osla has a Duryodhana temple, much like the quaint village. The fact that the temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva or Duryodhana is still a mystery.
7. Flora, fauna:
Both treks are situated under the Govind Wildlife Sanctuary belt. A pleasant opportunity to discover the fauna and flora. There is a great range of medicinal plants in the valley of Har ki Doon. Whereas, only pines and rhododendrons and lush meadows have Kedarkantha. Many Himalayan birds can be seen, such as Redstart, Rosefinch, Monal, and bearded vulture. It is easy to spot animals such as black bears, snow leopards, wild boars and musk deer.
